Alumni Highlights

Elly Long (MA '20)

After graduating from the DHS, Elly returned to her undergraduate alma mater, Princeton University, to pursue a PhD in politics. Her dissertation, “Augustine and the Politics of Contingency,” studies the contributions of Augustine’s theological vision affords to our understanding of the unchosen aspects of our political lives, particularly as they relate to contemporary debates about political realism, cosmopolitanism, meritocracy, and pluralism. Elly and her husband celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter, Abigail, in 2024. In 2025, Elly was appointed assistant professor of political theory at the School of Civic Leadership at the University of Texas at Austin.

Networking through the Thomistic Institute
