2026 Commencement Speaker

We are pleased to announce that our 2026 Commencement Speaker is Dr. Matthew Levering. Matthew Levering holds the James N. Jr. and Mary D. Perry Chair at Mundelein Seminary, where he also serves as the director of the Center for Scriptural Exegesis, Philosophy, and Doctrine. He is the author or co-author of over forty books, including a number that treat St. Thomas Aquinas’s theology, in the areas of dogmatic theology, biblical theology, moral theology, historical theology, and sacramental and liturgical theology. Among his recent books are Aquinas’s Eschatological Ethics and the Virtue of Temperance, Reconfiguring Thomistic Christology, and Why I Am a Roman Catholic. He is currently at work on a multi-volume quasi-dogmatics, whose first seven volumes have appeared, most recently Engaging the Doctrine of the Church. He is the editor or co-editor of over thirty books, including four Oxford Handbooks, numerous edited volumes on Aquinas’s biblical commentaries, Aristotle in Aquinas’s Theology, and The Reception of Vatican II. He is the translator from the original French of Gilles Emery, O.P.’s The Trinity. He co-edits two quarterly journals, Nova et Vetera and the International Journal of Systematic Theology, and he was the founding Senior Editor of Word on Fire’s academic journal The New Ressourcement. With Thomas Joseph White, O.P., he edits the Thomistic Ressourcement series for the Catholic University of America Press. He is a past president (2021-22) of the Academy of Catholic Theology, and longtime member of Evangelicals and Catholics Together.
