Our President, Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P., was recently a guest on the Napa Institute’s Shepherd Circle Priest Podcast, hosted by Fr. Colin Lomnitzer of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
In the conversation, Fr. Legge looks back on his path to the priesthood. He studied law, served as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice, and then had a moment of surrender in a monastery chapel that changed the course of his life. He describes what drew him to the Order of Preachers: fraternal life, common prayer, and the call, in St. Thomas Aquinas’s words, to contemplate and to hand on to others what has been contemplated. He also reflects on the growth of the Thomistic Institute, which now has chapters on 110 campuses, and gives advice to young priests and to those discerning a vocation: pray first, trust that Christ is real and at work, and invite others to heroic holiness.
Nineteen years after his ordination, Fr. Legge calls the priesthood “a wonderful, wonderful joy.”
